So, as I was scrolling Instagram one night I happened upon an add for Burn Boot Camp. They know me so well, ha ha ha ha. This add said I could attend a week for free. I was sold, nothing beats free, amiright? I went to the linked site and signed up for a Monday morning class. I think I did this on a Saturday, so I had some time to hype myself up for it.
Monday morning came around and I begrudgingly drove 35 minutes to the location I signed up for and walked up to the entrance. I also had to make myself not turn around and get back into the car. There were cute 20 somethings with small children herding them inside. What have I done? Do I really want to do this? I am definitely not 20 something. Sigh, I opened the door.
Someone greeted my right away even though there was a lot of socialization going on and the music was loud (forgive me, I’m old). But I was shown how to sign in and shown where I could put my things, and then introduced to a few members who were standing nearby.
The next thing I know, we are being told this is a partner workout and to find a partner. Could I leave now without anyone noticing? Nope, one of the young women I was introduced to approached me and asked me to be her partner. Ok, thank you. We chatted about the classes and the different sections of the gym. What they usually did in the different areas and what the equipment was for. Mostly ropes, medicine balls, weights, and in the corner were some jump boxes which I said a quick prayer to not have to use them(That prayer was answered, yay). The instructor said we would be working in rounds. One partner would be doing burpees while the other partner did something else. That something else would change every 9 minutes. The first round was kettlebell swings. We needed to do 100 swings. So I volunteered to do burpees first and my partner did the first of the swings. While I did 10 burpees, she did I think 30 swings (sheesh, IDK if I can do that). While she did 10 burpees, I did 22 swings. We alternated like that until we got to 100, then we did wall sits until the 9 minutes was up. The next round was rope slams with the battle ropes. And the one after that was medicine ball slams with 15lb medicine balls. Then a final round of alternating waves with the battle ropes. I’m not actually sure how many those were because I swear my brain wasn’t working by then, it was being bombarded with adrenaline and trying to keep me alive.
Ladies and Gentlemen, when I tell you this was the hardest workout I have ever done, I don’t mean it like, “ha ha funny”, I mean like, “I was 100% about to die”.
I am not sure how anyone survived that class, but everyone did! There were people of all ages and weights, mostly women, but several men. One lady’s teenage son did the workout with her. People love this. I… Didn’t love it. But had I been a decade or more younger I probably would have loved a membership to a gym like this! Listen, I’m not saying it wasn’t a great workout and a great way to move your body, and build muscle, because that it totally was. It is just that well, I did more burpees in one hour than I have done in my whole life. And I was NOT ready.
Will I sign up next year when they have a free week? Maybe. Maybe I’ll try a different day so that hopefully I get a different workout. But I’ll also be another year older, so who’s to say. I’m not going to say yes or no at this point, just maybe(lol). This wasn’t a fail. I survived the class. I succeeded in not dying during my first Burn Boot Camp class. Yay!
Final Verdict
3 out of 5 stars only because I was not prepared for the toughness of this class. This is all on me though. I mean it specifically states “Burn” in the name, I should have known better.
Have you tried a Burn Boot Camp class? If so, let me know how it went in the comments!
